10 June 2010, 14:03Russian Church has nothing to do with prayer for President and PM distributed at children party in Petersburg
St. Petersburg, June 10, Interfax – Text of Prayer for Russian President distributed in the Petersburg Tauride Palace on the International Child Protection Day was not approved by representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, head of the regional diocesan Youth Department Archpriest Artemy Skripkin told Interfax on Thursday.
"Some secular crowd has done it, I don't know who. The Russian Orthodox Church has nothing to do with it," Fr. Artemy said.
According to him, the authors took an Orthodox prayer to Archangel Michael, but changed it and inserted names of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
"Their names are written as the names to remember in prayer. Generally speaking, any Orthodox Christian is worthy of saying a prayer for him or her and there were special prayers for the tsar in the Russian Empire, but the "post" of tsar was different from the presidential post," the priest said.
"The authors made an exaggerated bow to the authorities. Why play with these things?" the church official wonders.
