Usual swimming suit approaches religious canons - fashion designer

Moscow, July 7, Interfax - Renowned Russian designer and the State Premium laureate Svetlana Begovatova points out that today beach fashion tends to more closed swimsuits and even corresponds to requirements of the Church to the appearance of its parishioners.

"Usual swim suit approaches Orthodox canons," she told Interfax-Religion on Wednesday.

According to Begovatova, fashion designers choose more closed swimming costumes. "Closedness is in the first place, but it is not the closedness of the early twentieth century," she said.

"There are such things as upper part with closed shoulders reminding of a bolero or small bodice (it allows closing important, dangerous for irradiation parts of human body) and more closed lower part with obligatory protected belly and other parts," the interviewee of the agency said.

She is sure that when choosing a beach costume, a person should observe the measure of shame and there is certain attractiveness and "even style" in swimming suits with "knee-long shorts," the interviewee of the agency said.

Closedness goes with the fashion for men as well: they are called to wear not only swimming trunks, but swimsuits with shoulder straps reminding of gymnastic costumes.

The interviewee of the agency is convinced that open swimming suits "a-la three petals" are too trivial and banal and moreover "not decent for stylish people" as it shows that "you are not civil and don't know how harmful is staying in the sun for a long time."
