13 September 2010, 13:33Remains of John VI should be re-buried in family vault - Romanov family
Moscow, September 13, Interfax - The Romanov family say that additional tests should be performed to determine whether the remains recently found in Kholmogory, the Arkhangelsk Region, are those of Russian Emperor John VI.
"If remains have been found, comprehensive tests should be performed on them. It is possible that they are indeed genuine," Alexander Zakatov, director of the Romanov family's chancellery, told Interfax on Monday.
If the remains prove genuine, the issue of their re-burial in the Romanov family vault in St. Petersburg may be raised, he said.
Zakatov believes it is necessary to conduct the entire set of tests "in accordance with all norms of the legislation and using science."
"Theoretically, it is possible that the remains are genuine. It has been historically confirmed that he was killed in the Arkhangelsk Region," Zakatov said.
Russian scientists earlier reported that remains believed to be those of John (Ioann Antonovich), the only Russian emperor whose burial place has until now been unknown, have been found in the village of Kholmogory.
