Tbilisi, August 29, Interfax - Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili has issued a decree pardoning 201 prisoners due to the Assumption of Virgin Mary, which Orthodox believers mark on Sunday.
A total of 171 of these prisoners will walk free on Sunday and thirty will have their prison time halved, Khatuna Kalmakhelidze, Georgian minister for the enforcement of punishments, probation, and legal assistance, told a briefing.
Among the pardoned prisoners are ten women, three minors, and two foreigners. |
