Lavrov asks West to help overcome Sunni-Shia standoff

Brussels, December 9, Interfax - Russia is concerned by a possible schism within the Islamic world, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

"We are very concerned about a serious schism growing within the Islamic world, between Sunni and Shia," Lavrov told a press conference in Brussels.

"Without help in reversing this trend, we could find ourselves witnessing very, very sad events," he said.
