Caliphate Soldiers stand trial in Kazakhstan's Atyrau

Atyrau, March 26, Interfax - The Interregional Specialized Criminal Code of Kazakhstan's Atyrau Region started the trial of 42 suspected terrorists on Monday.

The trial is closed to the media in accordance with the Kazakh Criminal Procedure Code, court press secretary Boranbai Galliyev told Interfax.

The Atyrau regional prosecutor's office sent two criminal cases of 47 defendants to the court. There are five suspects in one case and 42 suspects in the other.

Two explosions occurred in Atyrau on October 31, 2011. A bomb blasted in a garbage bin at first. Several minutes after a man blasted a bomb on a vacant lot in the Saryarka neighborhood. He died in the explosion. Detectives revealed that the Caliphate Soldiers radical organization formed by Kazakh citizens fighting for the Afghan militants and hiding abroad was involved in the terror acts in Atyrau.
