World Russian Council suggests declaring St. Petersburg European moral outpost

Moscow, March 28, Interfax - The World Russian People's Council members believe reaction of certain media and Internet community against St. Petersburg authorities who banned to promote pedophilia "reflects deep moral abyss separating these makers of information field from moods and demands of the majority."

"Most Europeans won't welcome an appeal to tourist boycott of St. Petersburg spread by oppositionists of traditional morals in European countries. On the contrary, protection of old good moral norms will arouse additional interest to Russian "northern capital" in Europe," participants in the session of the Council discussion club stated.

They also voiced the idea to "declare St. Petersburg an outpost of European moral norms and urge all European Christians, believers of other religions and all advocates of strong family to carry out a tourist pilgrimage to the city on Neva, free from immoral propaganda."

It was mentioned that once the city on Neva River "survived the blockade from the evil powers, from the Nazis who boldly pretended to bear European values" and today "this tragedy is repeated as a farce when forces alien to truly European Christian values urge to moral blockade of St. Petersburg.

The World Russian People's Council is an international public organization set up in 1993. Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia heads the Council. The WRPC was given a special consultative status at the UN in 2005.
