04 April 2012, 10:01Patriarch Kirill criticizes media for excessive accent on "horrors"
Moscow, April 4, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia urges media to represent events in the country in a more positive key.
"Today the society needs positive information, good news that happen in all spheres, including the church sphere. Unfortunately, the logic of feeding the information is formed ex contrario," the Patriarch said at a session of the Supreme Church Council.
According to him, most terrible, most negative things are among first top news "even in most central respected channels no matter whether this terrible and negative news has anything to do with life of the whole nation."
"It can be a special case, perhaps, it hasn't been checked yet and there are various opinions on it, but it is often presented as the breaking news, carries a powerful negative emotional charge and people charged with it watch further news in exited mood," the Primate said.
He believes that commercial interests stand behind such logic of presenting news: "most often people pay for things that excite these negative feelings, fears."
"However, people pay money for watching horror films. Though there is also something wrong with their heads: a normal person wants to get away, to hide from horrors, and here they pay money for watching a fairytale with horrors, a horror film," the Patriarch said. |
