09 April 2012, 13:03Moscow City Court declines complaint contesting gay pride parade ban
Moscow, April 9, Interfax - The Moscow City Court has refused to reconsider the complaint filed by the organizers of the Moscow gay pride parade contesting the legality of the ban imposed on the parade in late May.
"Now that our request for the decisions to be reconsidered by the Moscow City Court presidium have been declined we can file an appeal with the Russian Supreme Court, which will be done this week," gay pride parade organizer Nikolay Alexeyev told Interfax.
"We are simultaneously working on a complaint to the European Court and a complaint to the Committee of the Ministers of the Council of Europe contesting the non-fulfillment of the decision made by the European Court of Human Rights on the case Alexeyev vs. Russia," he said.
Alexeyev said the Moscow City Court has not sent to the court presidium his complaint contesting the ban on a march and two rallies in defense of the rights of sexual minorities, which the gay movement planned to conduct on May 27-28, 2011.
