Moscow, April 11, Interfax - Investigators are not inclined to believe the killing of Muslim public figure Metin Mekhtiyev, who has been killed in Moscow, is an ethnic one, the Investigations Committee said.
"Information provided by witnesses, an inspection of the crime scene, and the results of operational search activities lead the investigators to believe that the killing was most likely perpetrated by robbers. There is information that a mobile phone, a wallet containing some 5,000-6,000 rubles, and the keys to a rent apartment were taken from the man," the Investigations Committee said in a report posted on its website on Wednesday.
The report says the Investigations Committee has opened a criminal case on the basis of Article 105 of the Criminal Code.
"Investigators are working on determining the circumstances of the crime and the people involved in it. The victim's occupation is being determined. According to the information we have now, he was not working anywhere," the press release says.
According to the Investigations Committee, the body of Mekhtiyev, 33, with cuts to his forehead and stab wounds to his neck was found in Moscow's 2 Brestskaya Ulitsa in the early hours of Wednesday. |
