Easter celebrated in Emirates

Dubai, April 17, Interfax - Easter liturgy was celebrated at the Russian Orthodox church in Sharjah (the United Arab Emirates) on Sunday night, over one thousand compatriots prayed at the service.

Representatives of the consulate and embassy in the UAE attended the church, the Russian Emirates website reports.

The Dubai Festival City exhibition hall in Dubai represented an exposition of hologram icons. The money earned at the auction will be donated to the Orthodox parish in Sharjah.

Some Dubai restaurants offer Easter menu: believers can buy Easter cakes baked according to traditional Russian recipes.

The Russian Church of St. Apostle Philip was built in August 2011. It is the first Orthodox church on the Arabian peninsula.

In September 2007, Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad (the acting Patriarch), then head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations, consecrated the foundation stone.
