Patriarch Kirill: the Church attackers suffered a defeat

*** There have never been so many people in churches on Easter for post-revolutionary history as this year

Moscow, April 17, Interfax - People responded to antichurch attacks and came to churches on Easter in unprecedented numbers, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia said.

"Great Lent is connected with earthly life of Christ and His sufferings on the cross. But many of us especially felt this connection this year when the Church was subjected to temptations and influence of hostile forces from the outside. It coincided with the Great Lent. Hearts of many people were wounded with great sorrow and many people considered it as a great temptation, but Easter this year was surprising," the Patriarch said after the Paschal Great Vespers in the Cathedral of the Savior.

He stressed there had never been "so many people in churches in the post-revolutionary history, especially in our capital city."

"It's our resurrection," the Primate said and noted that the attack against the Church "changed many of us, armed us with spiritual power, made us understand on personal experience what the cross and resurrection means."

The Patriarch urged to learn on the experience of the recent events "that power of God is stronger that the devil's power, that God's power, preserving the wonder of faith, in spite of all historic twists and turns for two thousands years won't leave us in difficult life conditions."
