Religious factor is important in counter-terrorism - Patriarch Kirill

Moscow, April 28, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has expressed his sympathy to the people of Dniepropetrovsk in connection with the recent terrorist attacks in the city.

"This terrorist attack indicates that there are currently no borders for terrorism and terrorism is increasingly used by evil people to achieve their political or some other corporate goals," the Patriarch told reporters at the Sophia airport upon arriving in Bulgaria for a three-day visit on Friday.

The patriarch said all countries of the world should unite to fight terrorism together because "terrorism is a worldwide phenomenon and this evil must be eradicated from people's life."

"It is very important that the religious factor play an active, positive role here because, as we know, terrorism often feeds on falsely understood religious motivations. It is very important that we leave no chance for evil people to interpret religion in such a way as to inspire terrorism with it," he said.

Patriarch Kirill gave the people of Dniepropetrovsk "God's blessing" and wished them peaceful, joyful, and calm Easter days.
