Buddhists to make one hundred meter mantra at Kalmykia highway to guard drivers from rod accidents

Elista, May 3, Interfax - One hundred meter inscription - Compassion Buddha Mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum" - will be made of big white stones on a Kalmykian elevation to Dalai Lama's Birthday July 6, supreme republican lama Telo Tulku Rinpoche told Interfax.

Mantra will be made of shell rock stone, but residents of the republic can bring their own stones, better light-colored, and thus contribute to making the mantra.

Professor of Buddhism from the Columbia University (USA) Robert Thurman, Hollywood actress Uma Thurman's father, participated in the ceremony of laying the mantra first stone as he came to Kalmykia with a private visit.

Thurman also visited the village of Shin-Mer, motherland of his spiritual teacher, Buddhist philosopher Geshe Ngawang Wangyal, who brought Buddhism to the States.

"My spiritual father didn't have a chance to come back to his motherland, today I've done it for him. I promise that next time when I go to Kalmykia I will bring my children and grand children and learn Russian a little," supreme lama of Kalmykia cited the professor as saying.
