10 May 2012, 17:16Patriarch Kirill congratulates Hollande
Moscow, May 10, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has congratulated Francois Hollande on his election as president of France.
"I am sure that your knowledge and rich experience, accumulated during your many years of work in important and responsible posts, will help you in your new office," he said in a message whose text was posted on the Moscow Patriarchate's website on Thursday.
The Patriarch said Russian Orthodoxy has a history of presence in France that spans several centuries. Paris is the spiritual and administrative center of the Russian Church's diocese of Korsun, and the construction of a new cathedral is due to start next year.
"The Russian Orthodox Church values the good relations that it has developed with French political, public and religious leaders. I express hope for the further development of our constructive cooperation," the Patriarch said.
He wished success, intellectual and physical stamina to Hollande, and prosperity to the French people. |
