06 February 2006, 16:07Hizb ut-Tahrir activist amnestied in Kazakhstan
Pavlodar, February 6, Interfax - A court in Pavlodar, Kazakhstan, has amnestied the leader of a local rock group, Alik Ginatullin, earlier arrested for distributing leaflets of the illegal Hizb ut-Tahrir extremist organization.
Judge Almaz Rakhmettallayev told Interfax that Ginatullin had been accused of "instigating social, ethnic, tribal and racial and religious enmity, and for membership in an illegal organization."
Ginatullin, 28, was freed in the courtroom, the judge said.
Ginatullin was arrested in July 2005 by the National Security Committee, with 28 Hizb ut-Tahrir leaflets in his possession. An investigation revealed that he had dropped leaflets into mailboxes in Pavlodar. Three hundred more leaflets were discovered in his home.
Ginatullin confessed to being involved in this organization's activities for the past few years and distributing leaflets.
A law on amnesty was enforced in Kazakhstan at the beginning of 2006. |
