15 August 2012, 11:49Man who scattered Pussy Riot leaflets in Lenin Mausoleum fined 500 rubles - source
Moscow, August 15, Interfax - A man who scattered leaflets depicting members of the Pussy Riot feminist punk band in the Lenin Mausoleum in Moscow on Tuesday has been fined 500 rubles for 'petty hooliganism', a law enforcement source told Interfax on Wednesday.
Officers from a police patrol regiment responsible for maintaining order on Red Square detained a 50-year-old man identified later as Makhmudov, who lives in southeastern Moscow, for "throwing photocopies of the Pussy Riot punk band's stunt on the floor in the Mausoleum's mourning hall" on Tuesday afternoon.
The man has been fined under Russian Administrative Offences Code Article 20.1, which carries a fine ranging from 500 to 1,000 rubles or an administrative arrest for up to 15 days.
A number of media reported the incident on Tuesday.
However, Sergey Devyatov, an official spokesman for the Russian Federal Security Guard Service (FSO), told Interfax in commenting on the reports that "no incidents involving the scattering of leaflets or political posters were recorded near the Mausoleum or in the Kremlin on Tuesday." |
