30 August 2012, 17:29Pussy Riot action in Christ the Savior's has its masterminds - lawyer
Moscow, August 30, Interfax - If the convicted Pussy Riot girls had been charged with extremism, there would have been no tragic incident like the one that took place in Kazan where an inscription demanding their release was found at the site of two murdered women, Mikhail Kuznetsov, a defense lawyer in the Pussy Riot trial has told Interfax.
He fears that "similar horrible incidents may recur for a fairly long time".
"If the case had been opened on extremism charges, the investigators would have had to establish the action's masterminds before handing it over to a court, while hooliganism charges require no such thing," he said.
The lawyer suspects a link between those who ordered the February 21 action in the Church of Christ the Savior in Moscow and the Kazan attack.
Earlier on Thursday, the bodies of two women with multiple knife injuries were found in an apartment in Kazan. There was inscription at the scene, presumably in blood, saying "Free Pussy Riot".
The lawyers of the Pussy Riot convicts said that the girls' supporters were peaceful protesters and condemned the Kazan murder a "vile, dirty provocation". |
