Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, September 23, Interfax - Should the Bashar al-Assad regime fall in Syria, the Islamists will arrive, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
"The outcome [of the use of force in Syria], as you understand, will be in rebels' favor, who will come to power. No secular state will survive there," Lavrov said in an interview with the Sunday Time (Voskresnoye Vremya) program on Channel One, broadcast to Russia's Far East.
The Jihadists, including those linked to the radical groups Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, account for between two thirds and three fourths of the opposition, and they want to proclaim the Islamic Caliphate in Syria and in the adjacent territories, he said.
"If our Western partners plan their actions at least a couple of steps in advance, they cannot be unaware of this," Lavrov said.
