Over 3,000 natives of Russia and other CIS states fight on opposition's side in Syria mufti

Moscow, October 25, Interfax - Sheikh Ahmed Badreddin Hassoun, Supreme Mufti of Syria, claims that at least 2,000 natives of Russia, mostly from the North Caucasus, are currently fighting on the side of the Syrian opposition in the country.

During a visit to Moscow Islamic University, the supreme mufti also said that Syrian government sources put the number of people from other CIS member states fighting in Syria at 1,300. Most likely, many of them are already dead, he added.

At the university, Hassoun said a prayer together with students and teachers and delivered a brief lecture addressing the present situation in Syria.
