Putin greets Russian Muslims on Eid al-Adha holiday

Moscow, October 6, Interfax - Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent his greetings to Russian Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, or Kurban Bayram, one of the two most important Muslim holidays, which marks the end of pilgrimage to holy places, the Kremlin press service reported on Saturday.

"Over centuries, this holiday filled with kind and warm feelings has served to bring people together, establish ideals of good and mercy in society, and teach respect for religious commandments and traditions," Putin said in his message.

"It is encouraging that the Muslim community of Russia actively participates in the country's public affairs, pursues far-reaching charity and educational activities, attaches untiring significance to the strengthening of family values, and makes a considerable contribution to maintaining inter-religious and interethnic accord," he said.
