Novosibirsk, February 5, Interfax - A student from Kazakhstan studying at a Novosibirsk college attempted to recruit other students to fight for the Islamic State, Alexey Kirillov, a deputy chief of the Russian Interior Ministry for the Novosibirsk region, told journalists.
"A student coming from Kazakhstan left for Syria," he said.
The student, who studied 1.5 years at the Novosibirsk college, lived in a dormitory with other students.
"He could not persuade them [to go with him], but he left to there himself," he said.
This instance is so far the only one known in the region, Kirillov said.
