Baku, September 3, Interfax - The Baku court of grave crimes has handed down a guilty verdict to five Azerbaijani citizens involved in the Islamic State terrorist organization who participated in its illegal armed groups in Syria.
The court told Interfax that the defendants - Elshan Gurbali, Kamran Azizov, Tural Mamedov, Nadir Alikhanov, and Bahruz Rasulov - were sentenced to many years in prison.
They have been found guilty of "creation of armed formations or groups as non-stipulated by the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participation in their creation and their activities, providing them with weapons, ammunition, explosives, military equipment or munitions of war" and also of "actions aimed at incitement of national, social, racial or religious hatred and enmity."
The court sentenced Gurbanly, Azizov and Mamedov to 14.5 years in prison, Alikhanov to 13 years, and Rasulov to 12 years.
According to the bill of indictment, above persons were detained by officers of Azerbaijan's National Security Ministry among 26 Azerbaijani citizens in September 2014, as they were suspected of creation of armed formations or groups as non-stipulated by the legislation.
