Russia's Muslims support fight against terrorism in Syria - Mufti Gainutdin

Moscow, September 18, Interfax - The chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia, Ravil Gainutdin, has expressed his solidarity with the Russian leadership's policy in Syria and the measures being taken by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to combat extremism.

"We, the Muslims of Russia, being citizens of our country, convincingly support the efforts of our state to stabilize the situation in Syria and crack down on extremism," Gainutdin said at a meeting with Syria's Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad.

Russian Muslims also fully support the Syrian government's efforts aimed at combating terrorism, the mufti said.

"In our opinion, it is the fight against terrorism that should serve as a platform for the international community to consolidate and provide a united front in this fight, acting as equal partners," he said.
