Moscow, June 9, Interfax - Turkey plans to form an 'incubator' for terrorist groups in northern Syria, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad said at a meeting of the State Duma inter-faction group on the protection of Christian values.
"Christians are very attached to land and their roots, but, in spite of that, Turkey is trying to fully cleanse northern Syria from one of the most important components of our society. Turkey is looking to create favorable soil for the adoption of a radical ideology and wants the region to become an incubator for terrorist groups, so that Erdogan's dream of the revival of the Islamic empire can eventuate," Haddad said.
He said that Turkey "horrifies Christians by conducting criminal activities."
The ambassador said there is a need to close the Syrian-Turkish border. "There is a need to close the Syrian-Turkish border and ban terrorists, weapons, funding intended for terrorist activities, there is a need to impose tough sanctions on those who allow that," Haddad said.
Haddad believes that "terror will backfire on the countries that have used this card, it can be said here that they got what they were fighting for."
