Tashkent, October 18, Interfax - The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is calling for a peaceful solution to the conflict in Syria to be found, OIC Secretary General Iyad Amin Madani said.
Speaking at the opening of the 43rd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on Tuesday, he said that the situation in Syria was one of the most important issues in the center of the organization's agenda.
The OIC is in favor of a political settlement of the situation in Syria on the basis of the achieved Geneva agreements, he said.
The OIC secretary general also underscored the OIC member states' commitment to the sovereignty, independence, political unity and territorial integrity of Syria.
The Syrian regime bears responsibility for the current situation in the country, he said.
