Debate on Lenin’s burial should not destroy Church unity - Russian Orthodox Church official

Moscow, April 21, Interfax - Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Church Relations, is convinced that the decision to bury Lenin’s body should not lead to contradictions and division in society.

‘If the result of this analysis (on the need to bury Lenin - IF) leads us to conclude that this action will rather contribute to the destruction of unity, then let us wait a little’, Metropolitan Kirill said in an interview with Rossiyskaya gazeta published on Friday.

He said the Church, in speaking of the need to consign Lenin’s body to the earth, ‘has always emphasized that there are quite a few of those for whom it is a matter of real worship’, therefore people ‘should not be knocked out of their groove’.
