Over 200 Muslim leaders died for promoting true Islam in the North Caucasus - Pshihachev

Moscow, February 22, Interfax - Participants in the Interreligious Council of Russia urged to fight against religious ignorance to oppose extremism and radicalism.

"Unfortunately, over two hundred religious leaders in the North Caucasus gave their lives for promoting true values of Islam expressed in love for people," general representative of the coordinating center of Muslims of the North Caucasus in Moscow, Mufti Shafig Pshikhachev said at the Council's session.

According to him, if people of Caucasus thanks to the work of religious leaders had not opposed promotion of extremism and terrorism, "we would have the same things in the North Caucasus as in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq."
