Russian Jews speak for restitution of religious property

Moscow, February 28, Interfax - Jews supports the restitution of religious property, the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia official says.

"I can't say that for people in synagogues whom I talked to, the question of giving the property back to the Russian Orthodox Church is an actual question. They believe that it is not their business, but generally they back up the restitution," head of the FJCR Public Relations Boruch Gorin said on air the Dozhd TV channel.

He pointed out that Jews shared an opinion that "the stolen things should be given back, and expropriation is seen as a robbery."

Gorin spoke about the efforts of the state on returning immobile property to religious organizations.

"We see statesmanship here that supports transferring buildings to religious organizations, including Jewish ones. It also refers to allotting the room for schools and synagogues in places where synagogues were demolished and exist no more," he said.
