Moscow/Grozny, April 3, Interfax - The Chechen leader's press secretary Alvy Karimov disproved information about persecutions against homosexual men: it is impossible to persecute those, who do not exist in the republic.
"Published reports are absolute lie, it is impossible to detain and persecute those, who do not exist in the republic," Karimov told Interfax.
He called such publications "an attempt to blacken the Chechen Republic." "I responsibly say that this media material is lie and disinformation," press secretary of the Chechen head said.
"If there were such people in Chechnya, the law enforcement agencies would not have any problems with them, because their relatives would have sent to the placed they would not return from," Karimov said.
Earlier, the Novaya Gazeta published a material that about a hundred people suspected in homosexuality were detained in Chechnya.
