Hmeymim (Syria), April 17, Interfax - Several thousand Easter cakes were delivered from Moscow to Russian air base Hmeymim in Syria.
Earlier on the eve of the Christian feast of the Resurrection of Christ Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia blessed the Easter cakes at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior. Then they were transported to the Chkalovsky airdrome in the Moscow Region and carried to Syria by planes of military and transport aviation. The Easter cakes were served for festival breakfast on Easter.
"It is very pleasant to get a particle of Motherland on this holiday," junior sergeant Lyudmila Lutsenko from the medical detachment confessed to journalists.
3,000 cakes were delivered to Hmeymim.
"It is a gift from all believers who worry about our soldiers. When they learned where we are going to send these Easter cakes, they conveyed their greetings and best wishes to the servicemen," the Defense Ministry official said.
