Church of Moscow Patriarchate burglarized, desecrated in Odessa

Moscow, April 24, Interfax - Unknown individuals have burglarized the Dimitry Solunsky Church within the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in Odessa.

Having turned off the alarm and broken the bar on the window, the burglars entered the church and stole donations collected by parishioners to help people hurt by the military conflict in eastern Ukraine, displaced persons, veterans, sick children and orphans, the press service for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church's information and education department said.

The burglars also damaged church implements and used knives to cut open bags containing cereals, which were located in an outbuilding, mixing them with dirt.

They also broke and stripped of its ornaments an icon of St. Dimitry Solunsky, which was decorated with donations from the people of Odessa as a sign of gratitude for healing diseases and favorable solution of difficult life situations.
