Moscow, May 21, Interfax - St. Nicholas the Wonderworker's relics, which have left the Pontifical Basilica di San Nicola (St. Nicholas Basilica) in the Italian town of Bari for the first time in 930 years, have been brought to Moscow by a special flight.
Believers from Moscow churches have gathered at Vnukovo Airport to welcome the shrine. Some of them are carrying flowers and icons with the image of the saint. They are chanting prayers and akathists to their favorite saint.
The Guard of Honor company and clergymen are welcoming St. Nicholas' relics on the airfield. Upon arrival Metropolitan Arseny of Istra will lead a prayer service to the saint near the apron.
The shrine will be solemnly passed to Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia at the Christ the Savior Cathedral, where the relics will be brought for the vespers directly from Vnukovo Airport.
