Putin, Medvedev visit Patriarch Kirill to offer name day congratulations

Moscow, May 24, Interfax - Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev have congratulated Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia on his name day.

Putin and Medvedev visited the patriarch at his working residence in Chisty Pereulok during a break between two president-government meetings on economic issues.

The president presented the patriarch with a 19th century hagiography about St. Nicholas in the old Russian language; the premier's gift was Vyacheslav Shchepkin's Reasoning on the Language of St. Savva's Book.

Later the patriarch briefly spoke to the president behind closed doors.
