Georgian president calls discussion of restoration of monarchy 'strange PR move'

Tbilisi, June 21, Interfax - Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili believes that the meeting of the speaker of parliament with Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia to discuss the restoration of a constitutional monarchy in Georgia is a short-lived 'strange PR move', presidential press secretary Eka Mishveladze told journalists.

She said that when the system of government is being discussed it is important to learn the opinion of the public.

"As for such a serious question of which constitutional model the country should have, when it generally comes to the model of government, one should first ask the people and public and speak of any changes only after that," she said.
