Russian MP congratulates Georgian patriarch on his name day in Tbilisi media

Tbilisi, August 4, Interfax - Artyom Kavinov, a State Duma deputy and a member of the United Russia party, had paid an allegedly secret visit to Tbilisi, Georgian media reported on Friday.

According to the Rustavi 2 TV channel, the lawmaker had arrived in Tbilisi together with several Russian clergymen, with whom he congratulated Patriarch Ilia II of Georgia on his name day on August 2.

Deputy Kavinov also met with members of the Georgian opposition party, the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia, which had recently visited Moscow, the TV channel said.

Ada Marshania, a member of the Georgian parliament representing the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia, confirmed to Rustavi 2 that an informal meeting with the Russian lawmaker had taken place.
