Astana, August 22, Interfax - The violation of a regulation banning the wearing of clothes of 'destructive ideological movements' in Kazakhstan may be punished by a fine of 100 monthly calculated indicators.

One monthly calculation index in Kazakhstan is equal to 2,269 tenge. The current exchange rate is 332.58 tenge/$1.

"The use and sale in public places of exterior attributes and items of clothes demonstrating affiliation with destructive ideological movements shall be punishable by a fine imposed on individuals in the amount of one hundred monthly calculation indicators," the bill posted on the website of the Kazakh Ministry for Religious Affairs and Civil Society says.

The bill has yet to be subject to public debate, after which the parliament will consider it.

The Ministry for Religious Affairs and Civil Society said on Monday that Kazakhstan planned to legislatively ban the dissemination and propagation of teachings of 'destructive ideological movements' in the media and the wearing of related clothes.

Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev proposed at a meeting with members of the Kazakh Muslim Board in spring that a legislative ban on the wearing of hijabs in Kazakhstan be drafted.
