First Turkish aid to Myanmar's Rohingya Muslims to be delivered Thursday - Turkish Red Crescent head

Ankara, September 6, Interfax - The Turkish humanitarian organization Red Crescent will deliver the first of part of the additional humanitarian aid pledged by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for the Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar on Thursday, the organization's head Dr. Kerem Kinik told Interfax.

The Turkish Red Crescent will deliver 22,000 kilograms of meat and foodstuffs for 2,000 families tomorrow, he said.

The humanitarian cargo will be delivered to the town of Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh, near the border with Myanmar, he said.

The rest will be sent from Turkey as soon as possible, Kinik said.

Earlier, the Turkish president announced plans to send an additional 10,000 tonnes of aid to the Rohingya Muslims living in Rakhine State in Myanmar.
