Ukrainian government makes Russian-speaking people leave Ukraine when it adopts its language bills, Metropolitan Hilarion believes

Moscow, October 23, Interfax - The Ukrainian state directs legislative initiatives against its own people as millions of people in the country speak Russian, head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations Metropolitan Hilarion believes.

"I think it is absolutely evident that millions of Russians speak the Russian language in Ukraine and Ukrainians speak it, so the Ukrainian authorities thus demonstrate their people that they don't need them. The people face the choice: to start speaking Ukrainian violently or to leave the country," the metropolitan said on the Church and the World program on Rossiya-24 (VGTRK) television channel.

Besides, he spoke against support of the schismatic policy carried out by the Ukrainian authorities, which, according to him, will result in even deeper divisions existing in the Ukrainian society.

"If Ukrainian authorities want to consolidate people, first of all, they should get hands off the Church," he said.
