Patriarch Kirill: if we do not educate our people, others will do it

Moscow, November 1, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia believes Russian education can become the best in the world again and should be based on Russian “cultural research.”

“If we do not educate our people, others will do it. (...) If we base on our own cultural research and our way of thinking, taking into account world tendencies and achievements of science and technology, we will manage to preserve sovereignty in the 21st century,” he said opening the 21st World Russian People’s Council.

According to him, “Russian education can become a model, similar to Russian science and Russian literature.”

The primate believes that in such important sphere as education “it is necessary to develop our own scientific and pedagogical schools, to promote our own methodological discoveries.”

He urged not to be afraid of probable opposition of those who support global educational standards, as at the same time Russian education would attract international interest.
