Patriarch of Georgia tells the name of his locum tenens

*** It is the acting president's old friend

Tbilisi, November 24, Interfax - Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia before the liturgy in Tbilisi at the Kashveti Church on St. George Day addressed the believers and voiced his directive.

"Metropolitan Shio (Mudzhiri) of Senaki and Chkhorotsky will be locum tenens of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia," Ilia II said.

Metropolitan Shio (secular name Elizbar Mudzhiri was born on February 1, 1969 in Tbilisi. He received theological education in Moscow in St. Tikhon Theological Institute and from 2001 he was rector of St.George Church in Moscow, after returning to Georgia he worked at St. Nicholas Church.

He was given the status of a bishop of the Georgian Orthodox Church on September 7, 2003 and then he was appointed metropolitan of Senaki and Chkhorotsky on August 2, 2010. Metropolitan Shio is a childhood friend and spiritual guide of the country's president Giorgi Margvelashvili.
