Moscow, July 16, Interfax - Bishop Tikhon of Ivano-Frankovsk and Kolomiya has died near Mount Athos, where he was on a pilgrimage, Protodeacon Andrey Kurayev said in his blog on Monday.
The Moscow Patriarchate said on its official site that Bishop Tikhon had died after a lengthy illness.
Bishop Tikhon served in a Russian church in New York in 1987-2011. After that, he returned to Ukraine, where he became head of the Ivano-Frankovsk Department in late 2014.
He is the second bishop of the Russian Orthodox Church to die at Athos in the past ten days. According to earlier reports, the body of Bishop Ilia of Birsk and Beloretsk was found in the area of the Halkidiki on July 6. He was on a pilgrimage on Mount Athos.
