Astana, October 8, Interfax - More than 80 delegations will take part in the 6th Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions in Astana on October 10-11, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Aibek Smadiyarov said on Monday.
"On October 10-11, the 6th Congress of the Leaders of World and Traditional Religions will be held, 'Religious Leaders for a Safe World,' with the participation of our head of state, Nursultan Nazarbayev. Over 80 delegations are expected to attend, including spiritual leaders of Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, Daoism, Zoroastrianism, and representatives from religious and civic organizations," Smadiyarov said at a briefing in Astana.
The event will also be attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Secretary-General Thomas Greminger, the UN Alliance of Civilizations' High Representative Nassir Abdulaziz al-Nasser, and the World Conference of Religions for Peace's Secretary General William Vendley, Smadiyarov said.
"Work will be organized in four sections: the 'The World in the 21st Century Manifesto as a Global Security Concept,' 'Religions in a Changing Geopolitical Langscape: New Opportunities for Humankind's Consolidation,' 'Religions and Globalization: Challenges and Responses,' and 'Religious Leaders and Politicians in Overcoming Extremism and Terrorism,' " Smadiyarov said.
A final declaration will be released after the event.
