Inter-confessional accord in Ukraine sacrificed to Poroshenko's campaign - Putin

Moscow, January 16, Interfax - Kiev is ready to sacrifice inter-confessional accord to the campaign of President Pyotr Poroshenko, which is based on the search for enemies and attempts to keep power at any cost, President Vladimir Putin said.

"The Ukrainian administration must know that the attempts to drive believers into somebody else's church will have serious consequences. Nevertheless, it is ready to sacrifice inter-confessional accord in the country to the campaign of the incumbent Ukrainian president, which is based on the search for enemies and attempts to keep power at any cost," Putin told the Serbian media outlets Politika and Vecernje Novosti in an interview ahead of his visit to Belgrade.

The interview was published on the Kremlin website.

"Russia has no intention to interfere in church processes, especially ones unfolding in the territory of the sovereign neighbor state," Putin added.

"We can see what danger, including one to the Orthodox World, is posed by such experiments and the flagrant interference of the state in the religious activity," he said.
