Patriarch Kirill to visit North Korea

Moscow, March 4, Interfax - Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia plans to visit North Korea, the patriarchal press secretary, priest Alexander Volkov, has said.

"The patriarch plans to visit North Korea, but it is at present too early to speak about specific dates," the priest told Interfax, commenting on the words of Metropolitan Sergy, the patriarch's exarch in Southeast Asia, who told reporters in Bangkok on Sunday that Patriarch Kirill might visit North Korea in the near future at the invitation of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The patriarch visited Pyongyang in 2006, when he was a metropolitan and head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations. On that occasion, he sanctified the city's Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity.
