Moscow, March 15, Interfax - Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent profound condolences to Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern following the deadly terrorist act in the city of Christchurch, the Kremlin press service said.
"The attack on peaceful citizens who gathered for a prayer shocks with its cruelty and cynicism. I hope that all those involved in this crime will receive the punishment they deserve," Putin said in his message to Ardern.
Russia shares the grief of all people who have lost their relatives or friends in the terrorist act and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured.
Shootings were earlier reported at a mosque in the center of Christchurch in New Zealand and at another mosque in the Linwood area of the city. Ardern has confirmed the death of 40 people in the attacks.
New Zealand police have reported that four people suspected of involvement in the attacks on the two mosques.
