Moscow, June 4, Interfax - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Tuesday congratulated the leadership of the Central Spiritual Muslim Board of Russia on the Eid al-Fitr holiday, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, the Russian government said on its website.
"Eid al-Fitr symbolizes spiritual refinement and reminds everyone of kindness, graciousness and mutual respect that have been the backbone of the Muslim community for centuries. And it is highly important that you safeguard the traditions of your forefathers and see a reliable foundation in them today," Medvedev said in his message published on the government's website.
The Muslim community of Russia conducts major creative work, gives serious attention to awareness-raising and educational programs and takes part in charity projects, the prime minister said.
"And, for course, it makes a significant contribution to the fight against the extremist ideology and intolerance and does a great deal to strengthen interethnic peace and accord in our country," he said.
