Man hurt in shooting near monastery in southern Urals

Orenburg, October 11, Interfax - A shooting has occurred near a monastery in the city of Buzuluk, Orenburg Region, the press service for the Buzuluk Diocese told Interfax.

"An emergency situation occurred on the territory of the settlement BTK near the Transfiguration Monastery. A man staying at the monastery, a deacon, who was suspended from service a month ago, fired a random shot with an improvised weapon and wounded the monastery's driver. The wounded man was hospitalized," the source said.

The source was unable to specify the condition of the wounded man.

The diocese representative said that the man who fired the shot is a clergyman, but not a priest. "He assists a priest during services," the source said.

The agency currently does not have comments from the law enforcement agencies or investigative bodies.
