Lawyer German Lukyanov who helped exonerate Nicholas II passes away

Moscow, May 20, Interfax - Lawyer German Lukyanov, who helped exonerate late Russian Emperor Nicholas II and the imperial family, passed away in Moscow at the age of 60, Alexander Zakatov, director of the Chancellery of the Russian Imperial House, told Interfax.

"The House of Romanov is mourning the sudden death of our friend and associate. German Lukyanov made an invaluable contribution to the restoration of historical justice. This is an irreparable loss for all of us," Zakatov said.

Lukyanov passed away on Thursday morning, he said.

"German died on the birth anniversary of Nicholas II," Zakatov said.

Lukyanov was the head of the legal affairs department of the Russian Imperial House. He worked for years to achieve the exoneration of Nicholas II, the imperial family and their servants executed by the Bolsheviks.

Lukyanov developed a severe case of Covid-19 a short time ago but returned to work upon recovery.
