Some 10,000 believers attending papal mass in Kazakh capital

Nur-Sultan, September 14, Interfax - Pope Francis is leading a mass at the EXPO international exhibition in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, an Interfax correspondent has said in a report on Wednesday.

The mass is taking place on a square in front of the Nur-Alem pavilion, next to a monument commemorating the 25th anniversary of independent Kazakhstan.

The Pontiff arrived at the square by the popemobile, and the audience greeted him with exclamations and applause. Anyone can attend the mass free of charge.

According to the preliminary estimates, about 10,000 believers, including over 3,000 pilgrims from Central Asia and other regions, have gathered for the papal mass.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Pontiff addressed the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions at the Palace of Independence and met with the Kazakh leadership and clerics.
